Enjoyable hurling event staged in Louth

The Have A Go hurling and camogie session was a success in Louth on Tuesday evening.
The Protection & Prosperity Louth GAA Training Centre in Darver welcomed more than 60 children from across Louth for a hugely enjoyable Have A Go – Hurling & Camogie event.

Children from all corners of the county came along to pick up a hurl, give the games a try and experience the fun and excitement of hurling and camogie. There was no shortage of smiles, laughter and energy throughout the evening as the next generation of young players got their first taste of our wonderful native games.

Four activity stations were set up, with fantastic coaches at each station introducing the children to the basic skills of hurling and camogie in a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment. The focus was simple – get active, have fun and give hurling and camogie a go!

Pierce Caherty, Louth GAA County Head of Games, and Eilish O’Hare, Táin Óg Coordinator with Camogie, played a major role in organising the event.

However, the evening would not have been the success it was without the incredible group of coaches who generously gave up their time to help and encourage this new generation of little hurling and camogie superstars. Their enthusiasm, energy and willingness to share their skills ensured that every child had a positive and enjoyable experience.

Parental and family support gave these young players the opportunity to experience hurling and camogie, perhaps for the very first time, and we hope the smiles on their faces will encourage them to continue their journey in our games.

The Next Step – Join A Club!

The Have A Go event may be over, but for many of these young players, the journey is only just beginning.

The next important step is to get those little hurlers and camogie players moving and signed up to a hurling or camogie club. Joining a club gives children the opportunity to develop their skills, make new friends, stay active and, most importantly, continue to enjoy the fun of playing our national games.

We would encourage parents to get in touch with their local hurling or camogie club and give their children the opportunity to continue playing.
